Great ways to spend the Thanksgiving holiday weekend

October 2nd, 2012  |  Insurance

You know Thanksgiving is right around the corner when you start to see egg nog, pumpkins, and turkeys at the grocery store. Outside of filling our faces with goodies such as turkeys, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, there are many different things that people can do during the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday.

Here are some great ways to spend the Thanksgiving weekend:

  • Have a Thanksgiving themed TV marathon: Almost every show ever made has a Thanksgiving themed episode. Why not get together with family and friends, watch a few episodes and get in the holiday spirit.

  • Go to the cottage: Take advantage of the long weekend and take a short trip with your family. If the weather permits, why not spend the weekend at the cottage and have your turkey dinner there?

  • Go out for brunch: Many restaurants offer tasty brunch menus during holiday long weekends.

  • Go Golfing: With the weather increasingly being mild on Thanksgiving weekend, more and more people are golfing. A great way to still enjoy the weather while you can.

  • Watch Football:The NFL season is in full swing. Why not sit back and relax and watch football on Thanksgiving Sunday while the turkey is in the oven.

  • Haunted Maze or Hay ride:It’s that time of year again. Halloween is right around the corner. Check your local listings and look for a haunted maze or hayride. Great fun for the whole family.

  • Halloween Haunt: A great option for thrill seekers that want to get on the rides one more time, Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland transforms the amusement park into a Halloween themed park complete with Zombies roaming the grounds. Fun and scary at the same time!

  • Volunteer: There are many charities that hold charity Thanksgiving dinners for the unfortunate. Why not spend a few hours helping?

  • Catch up: Whether it is work, school, or even the yard work, why not use that extra day off to catch up on the things you have been meaning to do but could not find the time for.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. School is back in session, everyone is back from summer holidays, fall is in full effect, and it is a great time to have a delicious meal and enjoy the company of those around you. Use your time wisely and make sure to give thanks for what you have!
