Getting your Motorcycle Ready for the Summer

May 9th, 2013  |  Insurance

With the beautiful weather here to stay, motorcycle enthusiasts across Canada are taking their bikes out for a ride for the first time this season. But, before you can enjoy a season of riding, you need to make sure that your bike is great shape. The last thing that you want to happen is have it break down on you in the middle of a ride.

Here are the things that you need to check out to ensure you motorcycle is safe and ready to ride for the season:

  1. Tires and Wheels: Check out the tire pressure to ensure your tires are properly inflated. Also, check for cracked spokes, and the tread wear and tear. Tires often loose air when they sit over the winter, so make sure you get them back into riding condition.
  2. Lights and Controls: Making sure that all lights, gears, pedals, and controls are properly working before you ride. Check all hoses and cables from end to end for cracks or leaks.
  3. Fluids: Check all the fluid levels and if they are low, top them up before you hit the road. Check the oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and gas level.
  4. Frame and Stands: A final thing that you need to check is the frame and bike stands to make sure there are no cracks or other issues.

If you have questions or see a potential issue, take your bike in to get checked out by a mechanic. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Do you own a motorcycle? What do you do to get your bike in shape for the season?
