First Time Drivers – Save on Auto Insurance

August 30th, 2011  |  Auto Insurance

First time drivers will pay more for auto insurance. This is a fact. Just like with anything else in life such as your credit rating, resume, and portfolio, you have to build up your driving record to become more appealing to insurance companies.

The truth is that if you want to get a great car insurance rate, you need to build up a history of showing you are a safe and effective driver. And, this will only take place over time.

The good news is that there are a number of things that you can do to help you save some money and start to build a good driving record. They include:

  • Go to driving school: This is a must. Every new driver should go to driving school not only to get a break on their auto insurance rates, but also to learn the skills that will help them become a good driver.

  • Get good grades: Good grades do have some bearing on your insurability as they show responsibility and maturity.

  • Become a secondary driver on your parents insurance: Starting off as an occasional driver on your parents insurance is not only cheaper than getting insurance on your own, it also helps to build your driving record.

While first time drivers will not get the best rates for car insurance right away, going to driving school and building a good driving history will help they save a little money now and put you in a position to get better rates down the road.
