A growing concern for many travellers is how to enjoy trips and vacation in an eco-friendly manner. Eco travelling, or green travel, is become a more popular way for people to see the world. Green travel is about finding more environmentally friendly ways to travel and choosing to travel with companies that make an effort to lessen their impact on the environment. This option is becoming more sought after by travellers and more companies in the travel industry are choosing green alternative in the way they conduct business.

5 Tips to Travel Green

  1. Prepare your home before you leave:Eco travelling starts before you leave your home. Before you leave for your trip, take a few minutes to turn down the thermostat, and unplug any electronics or appliances that do not need to be plugged in (i.e. Microwave, TVs, etc.). This will cut down on your homes energy use while you are away. 
  2. Stay at an environmentally friendly hotel:There are more and more hotels popping up all over the world that are making a conscious effort to reduce their impact on the environment and minimize energy use. Look for hotels that have environmentally friendly certifications.
  3. Choose Eco Friendly companies:There is no shortage of companies that you will interact with as part of your trip. Choose restaurants, tour operators, transportation companies, and other local businesses that choose green alternatives in the way they do business.
  4. Take Eco friendly transportation:When possible chose the transportation method that is eco-friendly. This means taking public transportation rather than renting a car and walking as much as possible during your trip.
  5. Make Eco friendly decisions: Make a concerted effort to use less energy and be proactive about asking for eco-friendly alternatives.
