Different types of auto insurance coverage in Ontario

September 13th, 2011  |  Auto Insurance

A common misconception about auto insurance coverage in Ontario among residents is that it is all the same. This couldn’t be further from the truth. There are actually a number of different types of auto insurance coverage for drivers to choose from. Obviously, there are a number of mandatory car insurance policy elements that must be part of every policy. They include liability, uninsured driver protection, accident benefits and direct compensation property damage. This is at the very minimum, what you can get on your policy. However, it is recommended to consider additional optional coverage options.

If you are not sure what is included in your policy right now, it is a good time to take a look, even if your policy is not up for renewal anytime soon. And, when it is time to renew, review the optional auto insurance coverage options and think about if you would benefit from adding any of the policies to your current coverage.

Option auto insurance coverage options in Ontario include:

  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Collision coverage
  • Depreciation coverage
  • Transportation replacement coverage

Next time you are looking at your policy, think about it in terms of the coverage that you receive and don’t just focus on the price you are paying. The odds are if you are paying a significantly low rate then you may have minimal coverage. So, always compare auto insurance rates based on the coverage you are getting for the money you pay.
