Car check-up: 7 things to do regularly

August 1st, 2012  |  Insurance

If you want to get the most out of your vehicle you need to put in the work. You cannot just sit back and expect your car to run optimally if you are not performing regular maintenance on it.

There are many things that you can do regularly to keep your car in fine working order. However, many people commonly do not do them because of the following excuses:

  • They are not handy

  • They don’t have the time

  • They don’t have the money

  • They don’t know what to do

The truth is that all you have to do is take a little time to educate yourself about what needs to be done. And, if you don’t want to do it yourself, all you have to do is make sure you take your car in regularly for maintenance.

Here are some car maintenance tasks that car owners should do on a regular basis:

  • At the very least, take your vehicle in for a tune up on a yearly basis. You never know what could be wrong. Get everything checked so there are no surprises when you least expect it.

  • Top up all fluids regularly. This can be done when you change your oil.

  • Use winter tires during the winter months.

  • Check your tire tread to ensure you have proper traction.

  • Get an oil change regularly. If you are not sure how often, refer to your vehicle owner’s manual or talk to a mechanic.

  • Check your tire pressure on a regular basis to ensure they are properly inflated.

  • Keep your car clean. Clean the inside and outside regularly. Dust and dirt in your brakes or engine can impact your cars performance.

Performing these tasks will not only keep your car in good shape, it will also help to save you money on repairs down the road.
