Calgary’s Hottest Neighbourhoods to Buy a Home
Whether you're new to Calgary or just new to the housing market, knowing where to buy is difficult when there are so many things to consider. Well, I’m here to help! Here are some of the hottest housing options to check out if you’re single and want to mingle or in a family way and want your home to grow with you:
Young Urban Professionals
This is for all of you just looking for a single space you can call your own. You’re young and want to be close to downtown life. You’re not concerned with having a lot of space because you’re busy with work, school, and friends.
East Village is one of Calgary’s hottest new neighbourhoods and it’s for anyone who wants to be close to all the action. This historic part of Calgary is just east of the downtown core and has been revitalized with new condo developments, restaurants and other businesses to make everything interesting walkable.
Places like the old Simmons mattress factory have been overhauled and now hosts trendy little stops like a coffee house, boutique bakery, and an upscale restaurant ready to take your order.
Eau Claire is a more established community and has lots of personality and great access to downtown life. You're a quick walk to the riverfront, Prince’s Island Park and first rate entertainment, shopping, and gym facilities. If you’re comfortable with smaller square footage, you can get a basic little condo for the mid $200,000 and up in these two communities.
Young and Growing Families
Your priorities are likely going to be a little different now. You’ve got a partner, young children and you want to break into the housing market without breaking the bank. You have more responsibility now and things like home insurance, vehicle safety ratings, and good quality schools matter.
You’re little family is growing so you’ll need more space - even if you’re out and about a lot. You’ll be spending more time at home having dinner, playing in the backyard, and hosting birthday parties. A warm and friendly living area will be important to you. At the same time, you’ll want things walkable so little legs can make the trip to preschool.
When you’re shopping for a home, you need an all-in-one community. Grocery shopping, parks, schools, recreation centre, library, and other family fun activities need to be close by. Look no further than the McKenzie Towne and New Brighton communities for all this and reasonably priced townhomes and homes.
Priced in the mid to high $300,00s, these newer neighbourhoods have been around long enough to attract businesses and amenities you’ll want for you and your kids. Daycares have opened, schools have been built, and there is quick and easy access to the main highway for your early morning commute.
