There has been a lot written about car technology as of late. With self-driving cars getting closer and closer to becoming a reality on our roads, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at other car technologies that make driving easier and help improve road safety. 

It is amazing how much vehicles have improved over the past few decades from a technology and a safety standpoint. Features that didn’t exist a decade ago are now major selling features for vehicles and are what is helping make drivers safer.

There is no shortage of car technologies that we use every day and now take for granted when we drive. Here are some of the car technologies that make driving easier and safer for everyone that gets behind the wheel:

1. Blind spot alert– This helps people become more aware of potential dangers that are looming in their bind spots. 
2. Adaptive cruise control– This takes cruise control to the next level by maintaining speed and distance from other vehicles in traffic. 
3. Park assist and automated parking– No one likes to parallel park. This is the technology that will either help you park or do it for you. 
4. Back up sensors and reverse camera– This helps to ensure that you do not hit anything when you are backing out of the driveway or parking spot. 
5. GPS– GPS has really simplified driving, that is, if it works correctly. Just don’t follow your GPS directions if it tells you to drive into a lake, okay?
6. Hands free– Hands free helps to reduce distracted driving and ensures drivers are not physically handling their phones while driving. However, there is something to be said about hands free being acognitive form of distracted driving. 

Are Drivers Too Reliant On Car Technologies?

One question about these technologies revolves around drivers’ newfound dependence on these technologies. Are drivers becoming too reliant on technology when driving?
