5 Tips to Beat the Cottage Traffic

May 5th, 2014  |  Auto Insurance

Cottage season is finally upon us! With no shortage of people heading up to the cottage to open it up for the season and with just as many more people renting cottages this spring to kick back and relax, there is no doubt that lots of people are all headed in the same direction. You know what this means - cottage traffic.

How to Beat the Cottage Traffic Rush

Cottage season means more traffic heading to cottage country. Rather than get stuck in traffic on your way up to the cottage and waste valuable relaxation time, it is important that you plan your trip to the cottage accordingly so your drive does not take longer than anticipated.

Here are a number of great tips to beat the cottage traffic this year:

  1. Time your trip properly: Thinking of going up to the cottage on Friday after work? So is everyone else. Your best option is to leave Thursday night if possible or wait until traffic dies down on Friday night before driving.
  2. Know where the construction zones are located: While it might be cottage season, it is also construction season as well. Take some time to figure out where the construction is and avoid those routes if possible.
  3. Check the traffic: Always check the traffic before leaving for the cottage. If there is an accident or if traffic is extremely heavy you are best off waiting a bit or you will just end up getting caught sitting in the traffic.
  4. Be ready for delays: Unfortunately, traffic delays on the way to the cottage seem to be the norm. Be prepared for them by filling up the tank before hitting the road and pack some snacks and drinks so you will not have to stop on your way.
  5. Take an alternative route: If possible, take an alternate route up to the cottage. Most people will take the same, larger roads. Look into back roads or other ways of getting to the cottage to beat the traffic.
