5 Easy to Implement Energy Saving Tips that Save Money and Reduce Energy Consumption

July 17th, 2014  |  Home Insurance

While blasting the air conditioner is often Plan A when it gets hot outside, relying solely on your AC will lead to a big surprise at the end of the month – in the form of an expensive energy bill. With so many homeowners quick to turn the AC knob to max to keep cool, it also puts stress on our power grid in Ontario – Remember a few years back when we experienced all those blackouts?

What you can do is focus on saving energy and reducing your energy consumption in other areas to help reduce the impact of using the AC during the summer – Something that will help you keep energy costs under control and put less pressure on the energy grid.

5 Energy Saving Tips during Hot Summer Months

Here are 5 simple and easy to implement energy saving tips that will help you save money and reduce energy use during the summer:

  1.  Hang the Laundry to Dry

This allows you to save on the energy that you typically use to operate your dryer.

  2.  Cook Once for Multiple Meals

Consider cooking a large meal or multiple meals at the same time to reduce energy. Plus, you will also save time and don’t have to worry about the stove warming up the house when you use it.

  3.  Use Appliances During Off-Peak Hours

Run your dishwasher, washer, and other appliances in the evening and during off peak hours to save money.

  4.  Take Cooler and Shorter Showers

Long and hot showers in the summer will not only keep your energy use up, they will also make it more difficult for you to stay cool.

  5.  Enjoy the Summer Weather

Spending more time outside and enjoying the summer weather will naturally cause your family to use less energy than if you spent the day indoors. Get outside and get active with your family.

Do you consciously try to reduce your energy consumption during the summer? If yes, what do you do to keep energy costs down?
