4 Tips for Winterizing your Home

October 24th, 2013  |  Insurance

Winterizing your home is just one of the many things that you need to do to get the most out of your home. The more on top of things that you are, the better overall condition that your home will be in, and the less likely you will have to fork out a large amount of money to fix a big issue.

Winterizing your home enables you to keep on top of small issues before they become major problems. It also helps you protect your home from the harsh winter weather.

Here are a number of important tips when it comes to winterizing your home:

  1. Look for leaks every year: Most homeowners can fix minor leaks on their own. All you need is some weather stripping and caulking. Checking your entire home will also help to prevent energy loss, which is also a cost saver.
  2. Get your furnace serviced: An efficient running furnace will keep your home warm without breaking the bank.
  3. Clean the gutters: Clogged gutters can lead to a variety of issues during the winter. From ice damming and ice build-up to water damage, there is no shortage of issues that could occur.
  4. Consult a professional: If you are not confident that you have the skills and wherewithal to make sure you home is properly winterized, consult a professional. Even if you can handle it yourself, it is still a good idea to get a professional to take a look every few years.

What steps do you take to winterize your home? Do you do it or do you use a professional?
