4 International destinations to explore this September

August 22nd, 2017  |  Travel

If you are able to get the time off, September is a fantastic month to do some traveling. With the summer coming to a close, most people have gone back to work or school, and wrapped up their traveling endeavors for the season. The lack of people traveling mixed with weather becoming a little more moderate in most places equals not only increased convenience for you, but also allows you to save money on your travel expenses. Many international flights are cheaper during this time of year, and affordable accommodations are much easier to come by. With so many places out there to choose from, we’ve made it a bit easier and narrowed it down to some of the best international travel destinations for the month of September.

Italy

Whether you opt for Rome or Milan, Italy will not disappoint in September. Rome is a city that is best viewed on foot, making September the perfect time to explore. Not only will there be less people to deal with on the streets as the shoulder-season tends to see less tourist activity, but the weather remains the ideal temperature for walking around for hours. And, while Milan typically sees a lot of rain, September tends to be the driest month of the year, making it the perfect time of year to enjoy the sights, sample the food, and check out the latest fashions for the upcoming season.

Germany

It should almost go without saying that September is the perfect time of year to visit Munich, Germany. Yes, it is called “Oktoberfest” but much of the celebration is held during the month of September. Typically beginning mid September, the 18-day festival kicks off in Munich, celebrating Bavarian culture with beer, music, food, dancing, carnival rides, and more.

Greece

Both Santorini and Corfu in Greece are excellent choices for the fall, specifically September. Inlanders of Santorini claim that September is their favorite month. The summer rush has ebbed, the temperatures have cooled slightly (yet the water remains as warm as ever), and the colors are brighter as the blue of the Caldera seems heightened in the late summer days of September. Similarly, Corfu’s beauty shines during this time of year; the Ionian Sea remains warm from the summer heat, and seems to shine in the late summer sun.

Barcelona

If you are looking for somewhere a little sunnier, Barcelona, Spain is a great option. While September is still sunshine season, temperatures tend to hover around the 25ºC mark, a little more bearable for those who don’t like the scorching heat. And at night things stay balmy at around 19ºC, perfect for listening to some music, sipping sangria, and getting your dance on. An added bonus to going in September is the celebration of Catalonia’s national holiday on September 11th. The city becomes a hub of excitement as a weeklong festival ensues, featuring food, drinks, music, and dancing.
